Availability Manager Version 1.2
Installation Instructions for Windows NT Systems
This installation procedure assumes that you want to install the
application files on your local drive. The procedure also writes all
the registry entries that the application requires to your local
register. However, you might want to install the application files on a
network drive for a number of reasons---for example, the network is
backed up regularly, or the local drive is low on available space. For
better performance, Compaq recommends that you install on a local drive.
To install Version 1.2 of the Availability Manager on a Windows NT
system, follow the steps in each section.
1 Preparing to Install
Compaq strongly recommends that you read the release notes before
proceeding with the installation. To do so, follow these steps:
- Go to the Availability Manager documentation web page:
http://www.openvms.digital.com/products/availman/docs.html
|
- Click HTML following "Version 1.2 Release Notes" to
display the the release notes in HTML format. (You can also print these
notes.)
2 Starting the Installation
To start the installation, follow these steps:
- Go to the Availability Manager documentation software page:
http://www.openvms.digital.com/products/availman/where.html
|
- Complete the customer Registration Form, which allows you to go to
the download web page.
- On the Windows NT section of the download web page, click the name
of the appropriate file:
availman012_i.exe -- for Intel systems
availman012_a.exe -- for Alpha systems
|
- On the screen displayed, click the Save option, and enter the name
of the folder where you want to save the kit.
3 Installing the Software
To install the software, follow these steps:
- Go to the folder containing the saved kit, and double-click the
name of the file to start the installation. (This is a standard Windows
NT product installation.)
- After the installation is complete, reboot your system.
4 Stopping and Restarting the Installation
If you click Cancel in the course of an installation, you receive a
message indicating that your installation is incomplete. What you do
next depends on whether your network bindings are complete:
- If you cancel after your network bindings have run, you have an
incomplete installation, and files are left on your system. You must
reboot and do a complete installation.
- If you cancel before network bindings have run, the installation
will remove all files installed up to that point. See step 1 in
Section 3.
5 Running the Application
Steps for running the application vary, depending on whether you have
OpenVMS Management Tools for Windows NT (OMT) installed:

NT Start menu:

- Choose Availability Manager.
